A new era of excellence in education was heralded with the establishment of Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology in the year 1997. The objective of the college is to promote and develop technical education and to provide training to its students as per the latest market / industry trends / skills and prepare them to face the challenges ahead. To support the goals and objectives of the college the GRIET LIBRARY was started in the same year i.e. 1997. The centralized library follows an open access system right from its inception. It provides study and research facilities to the students, research scholars and faculty members of college. The library over the years has grown into the present status and considered one of the big libraries in the field.
The library clientele includes 200 teaching professionals, over 2500 UG students and 400 PG students pursuing their B.TECH, M.TECH,MBA and MCA covering about 15 disciplines . With increasing demand of information by users and growing needs of the library several services have been added to facilitate proper organization and to cater the needs of readers, At present the library is run by three qualified staff and four supporting staff.
COLLECTION: The present collection of library is 60000 books with over 7000 titles 125 back volumes of research journals and 600 project reports. It is receiving 200+ research journals National and International. it also has collection of over 500 CD ROMS and Audio-visual lessons.
SERVICES: The Library is providing the following services to the readers.
1 REFERENCE SERVICE: Providing information about and from the sources available in library at appropriate time to the users when they come with queries.
2 DOCUMENT DELIVERY SERVICE: The document available in the library stacks will be issued to the users during office hours for a fixed duration of days.
3 REPROGRAPHIC SERVICE: Xerox faculty available to the library users throughout the library opening hours at minimum charges.
4 CURRENT AWARENESS SERVICE: As part of current awareness service the library issues current periodicals, display of new arrivals, notifying the forth-coming conferences / seminars etc., and important notifications.
5 DATABASE SEARCH SERVICE: At present the literature search is available through INTERNET and ONLINE ACCESS to IEEE database (limited) and ACM journals and periodicals.
6 OPAC: An Online Public Access Catalogue terminal is kept to the users to facilitate them to search through catalogue to ascertain the availability of documents (presently limited to books and audio-visual materials only). It can be searched using various options like title, author, subject, publisher etc. in a user friendly way.
7 FUTURE PLANS: Library is initiating steps to become digital and planning to go online. It is in the process of implementing web-enabled user friendly library software. A new library building is coming up with a carpet area of 310000 sft.
