The petetion to form an IEEE student branch at GRIET was approved on Jan 4 2006.

The IEEE Student branch of GRIET was inaugurated on Feb 24, 2006 by Dr.M.B.Srinivas, Chairman, IEEE Hyderabad Section. The main purpose of this branch is the dissemination of knowledge of the theory and practice of all aspects of electrical engineering , electronics, computers, mechanical, bio-medical, radio, allied branches of engineering or the related arts and sciences, as well the furtherance of the professional development of the students.

The IEEE-SB GRIET is one of the most active student branches under the IEEE Hyderabad section. It has a well framed organising body and is controlled by the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
